Pasadena Marathon Cancelled

Event Organizers Cancel Race Due To Poor Air Quality

We regret to inform you that we have been compelled to cancel today's Kaiser Permanente Pasadena Marathon as a result of the significant wildfires in the Los Angeles area and resulting unsafe air quality. Pasadena Forward's decision was made in consultation with the Kaiser Permanente Medical Team and the City of Pasadena. Please know that it was extremely difficult to arrive at this decision, and we know that this is a disappointing outcome for all of us who have worked so hard for this inaugural event. However, the only appropriate response to this emergent situation, given that the safety and well-being of our participants is at the forefront of our concerns, was to cancel. Over the next several days, we will hold discussions to determine appropriate next steps. Once concrete plans have been developed, updates will be posted at www.pasadenamarathon.org. All registered participants will also be notified via email of all important updates. Thank you for your support and patience as we work through this challenge. We hope you are safe and well. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 11:00am, Veterans Day Ceremony. The City of Burbank & The Veterans Commemorative Committee proudly present Veterans Day Ceremony at the McCambridge Park War Memorial (Located at the corner of Amherst Drive and San Fernando Road). There will be a flyover by the Condor Squadron. A free shuttle for seniors and disabled will be available from the Burbank Tennis Center parking lot on Amherst Drive, and the McCambridge Recreation Center parking lots on Andover Drive and Glenoaks Boulevard . Shuttle service will be available from 10:15 – 11:00 a.m. and will continue after the event for 45 minutes. For further information, please call (818) 238–5390.

Election of 2008

It is the amazing election of 2008. History is being made as we will either have an African American who will be the leader of this country or the oldest President in conjunction with a woman as vice president. History in the making!

At my polling place this morning in Pasadena on Washington Blvd, Longfellow Elementary I noticed people wearing political buttons, but I also noticed what was something very interesting in the school yard which was right next to the auditorium, kids chanting/singing Obama, Obama, ..... That to me was pretty amazing. It could have had something to do with the fact that the kids were Afro-American, but I really didn't pay attention to that. Kids are influenced by the media and they do listen and watch what is happening.

So far it seems that Barack Obama will win, but nothing is given yet.

As of 5:30pm Pacific Time, 77 electoral votes for Obama and 34 for McCain.

It was good to see the stock market make a nice move up today. In addition we are seeing gas prices dipping below $2 a gallon at stations around the country. In the Los Angeles area, Burbank - Pasadena we are still in the $3 range.

Just finished voting. Line was about 25 min long in Pasadena, CA. Around 7:15am.

Line was pretty steady. Two lines, one green and the other Orange. About 25-30 people in each line.
