NAMM 2009 - Shay Lynn - Maria Riley

NAMM 2009 took place in Anaheim, California. January 15-18, 2009.

The show is packed with over 1500 exhibitor booths. Approx 90,000 are expected to attend.

There's a rumor that the NAMM 2010 show may move to the Los Angeles Convention Center. That would be great news for the City of Los Angeles. I would prefer to see it held in Los Angeles. The LA Convention Center is larger and has been expanded to accomodate large conventions like NAMM.

At the show you will see all the music equipment and related components, basically anything that has to do with music you can find it at NAMM.

The people watching and photo opportunities are great.

The story mentions NAMM did a survey and showed that 82% of people who don't play an instrument wish they did. Wow that's a huge market that Guitar Hero and RockBand have targetted.

Dive Boat Los Angeles

This past weekend I went aboard the Sea Bass. The Sea Bass is a diving boat docked out of San Pedro. I tried to help Richard Gayou(Captain) and Earl(Divemaster) without getting in the way. This was my first trip on a dive boat. Very interesting trip. Makes me consider taking up diving.

One thing for sure is that it is dangerous. You have to pay close attention to everything you do. The main thing is to keep an eye on your air and not coming up too fast.

The group that went diving this past weekend was from SoCal Tec Divers. A very experienced group of divers from various parts of Southern California.

Sunday Activities

This morning I played golf with my cousin Fernando Caballero at Arroyou Seco. There was a 30 minute wait to get on, once we started we moved along pretty good, took about 2.5 hours to play.

I had one birdie and the rest bogies or pars and a couple double bogies.

After playing golf we wanted to get some breakfast, so we went over to Marstons. It was packed, there must have been 30+ people waiting. Funny because an hour before I called and they told me the wait was about 20min, they must have been slammed.

So we decided to go to Glendale and have breakfast at Shaker's. Pretty good place, except there was a dead pigeon in the parking lot.

After we ate breakfast Fernando dropped me back at my car in Pasadena. Then I took a walk to the Paseo and walked around and stopped in at the DeVine Wine, Pasadena Wine Cellar. They are having a sale this weekend. $10 /bottle any wine. So I bought three bottles. A Chard, Blanc, and Merlot.

Jennifer Caballero is now back from her trip to Monterey where she had her high school reunion. Seems like they had a good time.

Tonight we are getting together with Kerry Bradley for dinner, most likely going to Margarita Jones in Pasadena.

Claremont Farmer's Market

Jennifer and I went to the Claremont Farmer's Market. It was a beautiful day. They weather was great. Some areas got into the mid 70's. After the market we walked around a bit.

Then we headed back to Monrovia and had breakfast at the Peach Cafe with my brother Dan Caballero and our nephew Justin Caballero. We ate on the patio. The Peach Cafe is a pretty good place. It took a while to get seated, about 20min. Which was fine as my Dan was driving over from Whittier. The water the server brought was frozen, I showed it to them and they said they use a fork to poke it..... go figure.... we did have a little sun and it started to melt. The only complaint I had about the food was that the potatoes in the skillet I had did not appear to be cooked, only boiled and then cut up. It would have been nice if they would have been fried, or heated on the "skillet". The pancakes here are really good. I think they use real buttermilk.

After breakfast we went to visit my folks, Victor Caballero and Margarita Caballero. We also saw my uncle and his wife. Fernando Caballero and Elva Caballero.

We had a nice visit outside in the patio.

After our visit with my folks we came home and fixed up a few things. I made another attempt to fix the leaking valve going into the new refrigerator we bought from Sears(I'll have more to say about it in another post).

Before dinner we decided to take a drive up to see the lights in the UHRA(Upper Hastings Ranch Association) lights on the streets. There are so many streets with lights. It is really one of the most organized lighting events around.
Then we went to the Balian home in Altadena, at Mendocino and Altadena. Every year there are so many people driving and walking around this mansion. This year we even saw vendors(3 of them) selling santa hats and various toys. It is really a pretty amazing display of lights.

We then came home and ate a bowl of sourdough clam chowder and salmon(from our Dream Dinners) and a salad.

It was a pretty busy day!
