WIFI Interference
I have been doing so research on wifi interference.
There appears to be many different ways to deal with the various forms. The most common appears to be upgrading the equipment so that there is no overlap in frequencies. Also changing the router to do autoscan for the best channel to transmit/operate is common.
I work for a large studio and when bands come in to rehearse and shoot the wireless gets really sketchy even dropping out all together. I can take the same access point to an area where there is no interference and it will work fine.

This doc tells the true story of the high profile controversy involving
poor farmers and their supporters, celebrity tree sitters, the developer
and the city over the largest urban farm in the U.S. It includes a rare
interview with the developer and covers the farmers efforts to stay
connected to the land after eviction and bulldozing.
The film includes farm leaders Tezozomoc and Rufina Juarez and
celebrity tree sitters Daryl Hannah, Joan Baez, Julia Butterfly Hill, and John Quigley, as well as other supporters such as
Martin Sheen and musicians Tom Morello and Willie Nelson who brought international attention to the issue. Others
interviewees include human rights activist Don White, radio host Lila Garrett, author Marion Nestle (Politics of Food) and
Mike Feinstein, former mayor of Santa Monica and international Green Party leader.
The film is directed by Sheila A. Laffey, who also produced and co-directed THE LAST STAND series on the Ballona
Wetlands hosted by Ed Asner with Joni Mitchell music which won 20 awards. She co-produced the farm doc with Geoffrey
Pepos, Sundance alum, who also edited the film. Assistant director is Jeff Forster.
South Central Farm is airing in “Natural Heroes,” a PBS series. It premiered at AFI
Fest at the Arclight and also screened at the Palisades Film Festival.

Santa Monica-based PluggedIn announced Tuesday evening that the firm has launched a beta of its website, and disclosed funding from Overbrook Entertainment, the entertainment firm run by Will Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed, however Paidcontent reports the investment was worth approximately $2M.
PluggedIn said that it will offer free streaming of high quality, music videos in HD and broadcast quality, including content from EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, and other labels. The firm is headed by Jeff Somers, who has served at Amazon and Zillow, and also includes Brett O'Brien, founder of Xdrive; Kevin Welk, CEO of Vanguard and Sugar Hill Records; JJ Aguhob, of Xdrive, AOL, and MySpace, John Gaa, also of Xdrive and also at Sony, and Nicola Marzolla, from Yahoo Music.

Yahoo Execs Launch and Move OpenX to Pasadena
Among the newest members of OpenX is Tim Cadogan. Congrats to Tim on joining OpenX. The company is moving from London to Pasadena to leverage students from Caltech.
Hopefully there will be some opportunities for others as well.

SAN FRANCISCO -- OpenX marks the new spot for former Yahoo Inc. executive Tim Cadogan, who is taking over as chief executive of the advertising start-up and plans to move its headquarters from London to Pasadena.
Cadogan, 37, is a key hire for OpenX, which is backed by such prominent venture capital firms as Accel Partners and Index Ventures. He spent five years at Yahoo, most recently as a senior vice president.
He was instrumental in the launch of Yahoo's souped-up search advertising system. He joined from GoTo.com, which was renamed Overture Services Inc. in 2001 and bought by Yahoo in 2003.
Cadogan is one of a growing number of executives leaving the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Internet company as it faces an unsolicited takeover bid from Microsoft Corp. He left Yahoo in February, despite being offered a promotion, a person familiar with the situation said.
Another recent departure: Yahoo Music executive Ian Rogers, who last week was named CEO of music start-up Topspin Media, which has offices in San Francisco and Santa Monica.
Former Yahoo executive James Bilefield, who was running OpenX, will take an advisory role at the company.
OpenX, which changed its name from OpenAds, is developing a free, open-source platform the company says serves more than 250 billion ads a month to 100,000 websites. The motto of the company, which targets small to medium-size publishers, is "Take control of your advertising."
"It's something I haven't seen before in advertising," Cadogan said in a phone interview from London.
It makes money by charging ad networks access to its community of more than 30,000 website publishers in more than 100 countries.
Like many advertising start-ups, OpenX is seeking to swipe some of the $40-billion Web advertising market dominated by Google Inc. It will have a tougher time now that Google has completed its purchase of DoubleClick Inc., which also offers software that lets publishers control when, where and how ads are served.
OpenX has raised $21 million in funding since 2007. Its new chairman, former AOL CEO Jonathan Miller, says OpenX can challenge larger ad networks by giving publishers more control. Miller helped prepare AOL to make the transition to advertising from providing dial-up Web access.

SAN FRANCISCO -- OpenX marks the new spot for former Yahoo Inc. executive Tim Cadogan, who is taking over as chief executive of the advertising start-up and plans to move its headquarters from London to Pasadena.
Cadogan, 37, is a key hire for OpenX, which is backed by such prominent venture capital firms as Accel Partners and Index Ventures. He spent five years at Yahoo, most recently as a senior vice president.
He was instrumental in the launch of Yahoo's souped-up search advertising system. He joined from GoTo.com, which was renamed Overture Services Inc. in 2001 and bought by Yahoo in 2003.
Cadogan is one of a growing number of executives leaving the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Internet company as it faces an unsolicited takeover bid from Microsoft Corp. He left Yahoo in February, despite being offered a promotion, a person familiar with the situation said.
Another recent departure: Yahoo Music executive Ian Rogers, who last week was named CEO of music start-up Topspin Media, which has offices in San Francisco and Santa Monica.
Former Yahoo executive James Bilefield, who was running OpenX, will take an advisory role at the company.
OpenX, which changed its name from OpenAds, is developing a free, open-source platform the company says serves more than 250 billion ads a month to 100,000 websites. The motto of the company, which targets small to medium-size publishers, is "Take control of your advertising."
"It's something I haven't seen before in advertising," Cadogan said in a phone interview from London.
It makes money by charging ad networks access to its community of more than 30,000 website publishers in more than 100 countries.
Like many advertising start-ups, OpenX is seeking to swipe some of the $40-billion Web advertising market dominated by Google Inc. It will have a tougher time now that Google has completed its purchase of DoubleClick Inc., which also offers software that lets publishers control when, where and how ads are served.
OpenX has raised $21 million in funding since 2007. Its new chairman, former AOL CEO Jonathan Miller, says OpenX can challenge larger ad networks by giving publishers more control. Miller helped prepare AOL to make the transition to advertising from providing dial-up Web access.

Stephen Hawking - wow over 1000 people in line
So last night April 9, 2008, the line at Caltech wound around the campus with over 1000 people waiting to catch Stephen Hawking in one of the two auditoriums setup or sit outside around the Beckman and just listen to Hawking.
We waiting in line from around 6:30 and did not make it, short by about 50-75 people from getting into the Ramo.
Would be great if Caltech could also webcast the event. I would be happy sitting home and watching it over the net.

On several occasions over the last month, a large, tacky Monster.com truck has parked in front of our SF office, and proceeded to blast loud music, to the point where our front offices were rendered unfit for working. On the latest occasion, a few of our techies asked the driver to turn down the music, which he was nice enough to do.
He actually turned out to be a sterling fellow, who clearly felt bad about what he'd been asked to do. He was good enough to allow us to photocopy his marching orders (that's him holding the fax in photo), which are excerpted below:
"For San Francisco the concept is that we want to make sure this address is on the loop drivers take and if they can be close by during the morning commute, lunch time (noon thru 2) and 5pm-6pm, that would be ideal. For the rest of the time, please drive through high-pedestrian traffic city locations. If you can get a picture of the truck parked in front of the Craigslist address, that would be great."
Is it possible that Monster is "green" with envy, now that our job boards alone receive more employment-related traffic than all of monster.com?

Geni Tree growning
My Geni Tree is now at 102 people.
This is a great example of community and a social activity. Not to mention it is a good cause. Who doesn't want to know more about their family and extended relatives and who they may be related.
Geni is a little tricky to use in terms of the navigation and viewing. Of course it is a beta.

NEW YORK -- News Corp.'s MySpace, the largest online social networking
site, will unveil a music joint venture with at least three major music
companies within 5 days, sources familiar with the matter said.
Called MySpace Music, the service will be integrated with popular teen
hangout MySpace.com and is being touted as a rival to Apple Inc's iTunes
online music store. It will offer music streaming, MP3 downloads,
concert tickets, ringtones and merchandise, the sources said.
News Corp, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Vivendi's
Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group Corp. will each have a
stake in the venture, the sources said. It is not clear if EMI Group,
the fourth-largest music label, will be involved.
"It's really creating a robust monetization component to MySpace and
having a focused music effort that could be the MTV of a new
generation," said a music industry executive who asked not to be
identified before the deal is formally announced.
MySpace is already one of the biggest promoters of music on the Web,
with more than 68.6 million unique visitors in the United States in
January, according to data from comScore.
Music companies believe a large part of the site's success has been
driven by their artists' music, which fans upload and add to their
personal pages.
"If you give people content they want and you make it easy to use and
share, they won't even know they're in a commercial environment," said
Forrester analyst James McQuivey.
The music companies have been in talks with MySpace for several weeks,
but a key obstacle is a 2006 copyright lawsuit filed by Universal Music
against MySpace. One of the sources familiar with talks said progress
was being made and the suit could be settled in time for the
announcement.
It was not clear when MySpace Music would be launched.
MySpace declined to comment. The music companies either declined to
comment or were not immediately available.
Faced with dwindling album sales, music industry executives have been
negotiating hard to avoid 'another MTV,' the music cable TV network
owned by Viacom Inc. Music companies had provided MTV with free music
videos, seeing the initiative as promotional, and failed to profit
directly from the channel.
Music companies "built MTV with free content and then MTV became more
valuable than the music companies," said the music industry executive.
Doug Morris, chief executive of Universal Music, the world's largest
music company, has led the challenge on MySpace. Late in 2006, Universal
sued MySpace for copyright infringement by enabling users to reformat
videos to be played back or sent to others.
That copyright suit has been one of the hold-ups in making an
announcement.
Morris and other executives also toughened their stance with Apple's
iTunes, with some of the majors refusing to sign long-term deals with
the digital music retailer, now the second-largest retailer of music in
the United States.
MySpace has lacked a revenue stream for the major music companies to

In the first four episodes, sexy horror hostess Melissa Bacelar gets down and dirty from her dungeon, featuring deadly entertaining celebrity interviews, otherworldly news, sinfully sensational gossip, and frequent hauntings from some of the sexiest females in horror ever to bloody our screens. "We are trying to get back to the days of Elvira where women could be funny and sexy while experiencing the best in horror movies," says creator and hostess Melissa Bacelar.
The show is directed by two-time Emmy Award winner Rick Schiaffo. It also features horror film expert journalist Heidi Martinuzzi reporting alive from the streets to uncover devilishly fun conventions, thrilling premiers and spine tingly events that horror fans are simply dying to hear more about. Also appearing from the dungeon each episode is the resident zombie 'Z' played by J.C. Taylor.
Melissa's horror acting credits include "Citizen Toxie: The Toxie Avenger IV", "Addiction", "This Thing of Ours", and the Award winning, "Strange Things Happen at Sundown" as well as a recurring role on Starz' Hollywood Residential and ABC's One Live To Live. She has also worked as an executive producer on "Eat Your Heart Out", and "Pink Eye" and runs the online casting studio THE NETWORK STUDIO.

Citibank online banking is down
I have not been able to login to my Citibank account to do online banking for the last couple of hours. Called customer service and was told they are doing an "upgrade". What are companies thinking when they do upgrades in middle of the day? Whatever happened to scheduling upgrades after hours? Anyway, I'm sure there is another reason for the outage.
Here's another company that is learning some valuable lessons about business. Their customer service is horrible, I can only imaging that it is being offshored over poor telco connections and poor equipment.
