Search Results: Powerset vs Google

There sure is some buzz online regarding Powerset and how it compares to Google. Jason Calacanis from Mahalo held a Jason Nation session on it earlier today and well over 125 people attended.

PowerSet is a new semantic(natural search engine that allows users to input natural language queries to find items.

So far, Powerset simply indexes Wikipedia, but the speculation is that the site may branch out to the Web at large.

Since Powerset only searches Wikipedia as well as Freebase, to be fair one could limit Google's results by adding site:wikipedia.org and compare results using the same data.

Powerset is not without techinical difficulties either, several queries returned errors.

Google is the leader in search. You can dispute all day, but they are the best at what they do and the results are clear with the lions share of search. The speed of results is very fast as well.

I will do a couple of comparisons on search queries to see how the Powerset and Google compare. Perhaps later we can include MSN and Yahoo in the further tests.
