Things to do Part 3

Long Beach Solar Conference and Expo

This event, organized by the Long Beach 5th district Solar Task Force, is worth attending.
There will be speakers on various topics and a solar tour on a bus, on your own, or on your bike. There will also be some tables with information about solar companies and organizations that are promoting solar. cool

Here is the schedule of speakers:

This Saturday is the Solar Energy Conference and Home Tour which is an all-day event where you can learn about the benefits of solar energy.
Here is a list of what's taking place at the conference:
9:30 - Opening Session: Hear opening remarks from Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske and Mayor Bob Foster, followed by a presentation on LEED Certification by Lance Williams of the US Green Building Council.
10:30 - A Homeowner's Journey: Norma and Alan Williamson will discuss their experiences and share the process of how you too can renovate your residence into a comfortable and healthy solar home while paying almost NOTHING for utilities!
11:15 - Solar Water Heaters: Patrick Redgate of Ameco Solar will discuss Solar water heaters - also called solar domestic hot water systems - which can be a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home.
12:00 - Streamlined: Watch a presentation from the City of Long Beach and learn how the Department of Development Services streamlined the solar permitting process by working with local residents and installers.
1:30 - Solar Panels 101: Patrick Redgate of Ameco Solar as he provides an overview of how solar panels work and how they can help you.
2:15 - Thin Cells v. Solar Panels: Robert Heng and Paul Munoz of Common Sense Energy will provide a lively discussion on the benefits of thin cells and solar panels.
3:00 - Do Your Own Energy Audit - Join representatives of Southern California Edison and learn your how to do your own energy audit. Take the first steps towards finding out how much energy your home consumes.

The event runs from 9am to 430pm.

The taskforce meets every month to work on ways to make the city of Long Beach more solar friendly. They are currently drafting a solar policy for the city and have organized this tour. The meeting are open to the public and the next one is on May 19 at the Park and Rec building on Studebaker.

Please note that I will not be able to attend this event (but I'd really like to) so please meet at 9am in front of the Park and Rec building if you'd like to meet other poeple in the group, and then walk over to the expo together.
